Amazon founder Jeff Bezos expressed optimism about President-elect Donald Trump’s second term and potential regulatory cutbacks in the coming years. During an interview at The New York Times’ DealBook Summit, Bezos stated he would help reduce regulations if given the opportunity.
Bezos acknowledged that the US has too many regulations, saying “We do have too many regulations in this country.” This comment comes after his decision to prohibit The Washington Post from endorsing a presidential candidate in October, which led to widespread backlash.
The billionaire also addressed Trump’s past criticism of him and his companies. Bezos said he would try to convince Trump that the press is not the enemy. In 2019, Amazon argued that Trump’s bias against the company hurt its chances of winning a Pentagon contract.
Additionally, Bezos expressed confidence that Elon Musk, who has been tasked with cutting regulations in the upcoming Trump term, will not use his power to harm his business competitors.
