Bezos Wedding Sparks Protest in Venice, Italy

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ lavish wedding to his fiancée Lauren Sánchez in Venice, Italy is facing protests from locals. Demonstrators displayed signs reading “No space for Bezos” and hung a banner on St. Mark’s bell tower with Bezos’ name crossed out. The event has sparked concerns among residents who believe the city is becoming increasingly popular with billionaires.

Despite the protests, Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro assured that the small guest count of 200 and careful planning will prevent any disruption to the city. He stated that Venice has experience hosting major international events and can handle such a celebration without issue.

The couple’s decision to source 80% of their wedding provisions from local Venetian vendors was seen as a gesture of appreciation for the city. However, some residents are concerned about the impact on daily life and tourism in the historic city.

Bezos’ wedding is not the first high-profile event held in Venice. The city has hosted celebrity weddings such as George and Amal Clooney’s and Salma Hayek’s. Despite the controversy surrounding his upcoming nuptials, Bezos expressed admiration for the city and its uniqueness.
