The US has deported over 271,000 undocumented immigrants last fiscal year, surpassing President Donald Trump’s record from his first term in office. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency reports this increase was partly due to a streamlined deportation process that expanded to further away destinations like Africa and Asia.
Most of the deportations involved migrants apprehended at the border, with 82% being arrested by border agents. President-elect Trump has vowed to launch the “largest deportation operation in history” but faces logistical and financial challenges. His administration’s record on immigration remains uncertain despite his campaign promises to address the issue.
