Big 12 Commissioner Calls for Consistency in Targeting Penalties

Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark is urging greater consistency in determining targeting penalties after a no-call on Texas safety Michael Taaffe’s helmet-to-helmet hit on Arizona State receiver Melquan Stovall during the College Football Playoff quarterfinal game. The missed call allowed ASU to punt and sealed Texas’ victory.

Yormark expressed his pride in Arizona State’s performance, but also highlighted the need for standardized officiating standards in the CFP. He plans to discuss these issues with the College Football Playoff management committee next.
