The Big Bang Theory universe is set to expand as HBO Max greenlights Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, a comedy series centered on comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom. The show is co-created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, who also ran the original CBS series, alongside Zak Penn. This new series will feature a mix of sci-fi and comedy, unlike other Big Bang Theory spinoffs.
Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn, and John Ross Bowie will star in the series, which has been two years in the making. The show follows Stuart as he tries to restore reality after accidentally breaking a device built by Sheldon and Leonard, causing a multiverse Armageddon. Along with his girlfriend Denise and friends Bert and Barry, Stuart must navigate alternate-universe versions of familiar characters.
Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady express their excitement about continuing the legacy of The Big Bang Theory, crediting Zak Penn for bringing fresh insight to the show. With executive production from Lorre, Prady, and Penn, the series promises to capture the essence of what fans loved about the original while introducing a new twist.
