Big Lots will close all its stores nationwide by the end of January, according to a manager at the Corpus Christi location. The decision comes after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December. Over 400 stores have already closed this year, including the South Coast Plaza location.
CEO Bruce Thorn said that while there’s hope for an alternative sale, they’ve made the difficult decision to begin the “going out of business” process. This means customers will be able to shop during “going out of business” sales until all doors close.
Similarly, Party City has also filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and plans to put its assets up for bidding or initiate store closing sales if there’s no sale. Both companies will have “going out of business” sales until their doors close.
The closures come after a challenging year for the retail industry, with many businesses struggling to stay afloat.
