Big Lots is closing its location in Vestal, despite reaching a deal that will keep hundreds of stores across the US open. The company filed for bankruptcy and initially announced the closure of all its stores. However, it recently reached an agreement with Boston-based Gordon Brothers Retail Partners to transfer up to 400 Big Lots stores to Variety Wholesalers, Inc.
Under this new arrangement, Variety Wholesalers plans to operate these acquired stores under the Big Lots brand and may employ current employees at some locations. The Vestal store, located at 150 Vestal Parkway W., has already closed, with banners indicating the closure. This is not the first time a Big Lots location in the area has shut down; the Binghamton store also closed earlier this fall, just months after it was announced that no plans would be made to close the Vestal store.
