US President Donald Trump has begun his second term, and the new administration is reshaping relationships with Big Tech leaders. The CEOs of Google, Meta, Apple, Amazon, and Microsoft have contributed $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund. They also attended the president’s swearing-in ceremony and met with him at Mar-a-Lago residence.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has made overtures towards Trump after a tense past, praising him following an assassination attempt on the former president. The company hired Trump-friendly Republican Joel Kaplan as global policy leader, while Dana White, a close ally of Trump, joined Meta’s board of directors.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai has also improved relations with Trump, donating $1 million to his fund and meeting with him at Mar-a-Lago last month. Google faces antitrust actions against it, which Trump may be able to influence.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has expressed optimism about the new administration’s focus on reducing regulation. He has a lot to gain from the changes, including the FTC’s antitrust lawsuit against Amazon.
Apple CEO Tim Cook and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella have also forged close relationships with Trump during his first term. Cook had appealed to Trump in 2019, and both CEOs donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund.
