College football fans are eager to know if the top-ranked Texas Longhorns can complete an unbeaten season. However, oddsmakers are skeptical about their chances. The preseason poll has released its odds, and Penn State and Ohio State are tied with Texas in the lead.
As of August 18, these teams have the lowest odds for finishing the regular season undefeated:
– Penn State: +410 (bet $10 to win $51 total)
– Ohio State: +410 (bet $10 to win $51 total)
– Notre Dame: +420 (bet $10 to win $52 total)
Historically, only a few teams have achieved an undefeated record in the last 30 years. Nebraska and Alabama boast three unbeaten seasons each, while Michigan has two. Ohio State and Florida State also have two, as do Auburn.
Since its inception in 1936, there have been 64 NCAA-recognized undefeated champions. Notre Dame leads with six undefeated championship-winning campaigns, followed by Nebraska and Alabama.
The most recent team to go undefeated was Michigan in 2023, which won the CFP title with a 15-0 record. Georgia accomplished this feat in 2022 as well.
Clemson, Ohio State, and Penn State are among those who could lead the way towards an unbeaten season. The odds suggest that these teams have the best chance of achieving it.
