Scientists at the Salk Institute have discovered that supplementing with bile acid UDCA can regulate tumor growth in mice with liver cancer. The researchers found that reducing a protein called BAAT, which produces conjugated bile acids, can also improve T cell function and enhance patient outcomes.
To weaken cancer, researchers recommend two steps:
1. Reduce the production of conjugated bile acids by eliminating the BAAT protein.
2. Supplement with UDCA, a bile acid that improves T cell function and promotes the recruitment of immune cells to the liver, ultimately controlling tumor growth and improving immunotherapy efficacy.
