Bill Maher Sides with Trump on Gaza, Calls Idea of US ‘Riviera’ ‘Preposterous’

Real Time host Bill Maher expressed support for President Donald Trump’s idea that the Gaza Strip could be developed into a “riviera” in the Middle East, despite initial skepticism. During a panel discussion, Maher told Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., that there was some daylight between them on the issue, but ultimately sided with Trump.

Maher said he found Trump’s idea of taking over Gaza and displacing its population to other Arab countries “preposterous” at first, but acknowledged it could be a viable option in the future. He noted that Israel is currently fighting Hamas, and the U.S. could play a role in bringing stability to the region.

However, Maher also questioned Trump’s suggestion that American troops would clear out explosives in Gaza’s infrastructure, calling it “all over the map” and expressing concern about the expense. The liberal comedian pointed out that introducing American troops could be counterproductive and suggested that Trump’s idea was more akin to turning Gaza into a tropical resort like Atlantic City.

Rep. Donalds pushed back, arguing that he would rather have Trump lead on Gaza than Iran, and emphasized the importance of having a clear vision for the region. He also stressed the need for leadership in the Middle East, including peace accords between Arab states and Israel, to create stability and harmony.
