Comedian and satirist Bill Maher has expressed his intentions for tackling Donald Trump’s second term as president. Unlike in the previous election cycle when he was more vocal about criticizing Joe Biden’s age, Maher now plans to take a more relaxed approach.
Maher explained that he prefers not to let Republican President-elect get under his skin ahead of time and wants to wait until Trump is inaugurated. “I’m not going to chase every rabbit down the hole like I did the first term,” he said.
Instead, Maher aims to focus on serious issues as they arise rather than pre-hating or making light of them for comedic purposes. “It’s perfect for comedy, but I’m not going to take it seriously,” he stated.
Maher also spoke about his past criticism of Joe Biden’s age and acknowledged that he had been the only person in television history consistently advocating against ageism. However, he clarified that such comments should be made on a case-by-case basis.
The comedian expressed his intention to continue performing comedy without letting Trump’s criticisms affect him. “It’s never entered my mind that I couldn’t say whatever I wanted to say without repercussions,” Maher stated.
