Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has supported Poornima Ramarao’s claims of foul play in the death of her 26-year-old son, Suchir Balaji. Ramarao, an Indian-origin tech researcher and former OpenAI employee, initially called for an FBI investigation after a private autopsy revealed evidence that contradicts the police’s conclusion of suicide.
The incident has sparked public interest and raised concerns among AI ethics advocates and creators about stronger protections for individuals who speak out against unethical practices in the tech industry. Balaji was known for his critical stance on AI practices, particularly copyright violations by leading companies. The San Francisco police initially ruled his death a suicide, citing CCTV footage that showed him alone at the time.
However, Ramarao’s supporters argue that the circumstances surrounding Balaji’s death are suspicious and warrant further investigation. With Musk’s endorsement, Ramarao is gaining momentum in her quest for an FBI probe.
