The luxury real estate market continues to thrive, with a record-breaking number of $100 million-plus deals in the US this year. Since 2011, only 45 homes have sold for $100 million or more, but the pace is accelerating. This year alone, seven such deals have been made, including Steve Wynn’s $108 million purchase in Aspen, Colorado.
The top sales include a $210 million mansion in Malibu, a $152 million private island off Palm Beach, and an $148 million landmarked home in Palm Beach by noted architect Addison Mizner. Other notable deals include Jeff Bezos’s third mansion on Indian Creek Island outside Miami Beach for $96 million and Laurene Powell Jobs’s $94 million purchase of a Malibu teardown.
The US luxury market is proving to be a lucrative one for billionaires, with many making record-breaking investments in the country’s most exclusive neighborhoods. As one new buyer notes, Aspen’s emergence as a hub for ultra-wealthy buyers is a welcome change from Palm Beach and New York.
