Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott expressed disappointment after the team’s 38-0 loss to the Chicago Bears in their second preseason game. The Bills were outgained 528-180, with Caleb Williams and the Bears’ starters dominating the matchup.
McDermott said the team’s performance was “certainly not up to our standard” and acknowledged that there is a lot of work to be done. He praised his quarterback, Josh Allen, for resting during the game, saying it shows they are moving in the right direction with their first unit.
However, McDermott emphasized that he wants to see more from Buffalo’s second-stringers, especially the defense, which struggled against Williams and Chicago’s first-string offense. The team was penalized 10 times and struggled to compete with the Bears’ starters.
Despite the loss, McDermott remains optimistic about the team’s chances in the upcoming regular season. He noted that they have allowed only 72 points over their first two preseason games but emphasized the need for improvement.
Bills players expressed similar sentiments, with safety Cole Bishop saying that the team needs to “learn from the film” and come back stronger. Cornerback Jordan Hancock stated that the team came out “flat” and vowed to be more energetic in their next game.
The Bills play their preseason finale on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before opening the regular season at home against the Baltimore Ravens on September 7.
