Bills’ James Cook Returns to Practice Amid Contract Dispute

Buffalo Bills star running back James Cook returned to practice on Tuesday, ending a four-day hold-in amid his contract dispute with the team. Cook was seen wearing full uniform and fully participated throughout the session, indicating that he may have paused his hold-in.

Coach Sean McDermott expressed optimism about Cook’s return, stating that “things have changed” and that they’ve had good conversations with him. However, McDermott declined to confirm whether Cook’s hold-in is officially over.

Quarterback Josh Allen echoed the coach’s sentiments, saying he trusts in general manager Brandon Beane’s ability to resolve the issue. The team has offered to pay Cook throughout the offseason, but the two sides remain unable to come to an agreement on a new deal.

Cook’s absence from practice was seen as a significant blow to the Bills’ offense, which relied heavily on him last season. Despite missing several days of practice, he did attend warm-ups for the team’s preseason opener against the New York Giants.

The team has extended three other draft picks this offseason, and Cook is expected to be part of the group that broke multiple records in 2024. His impressive performance, including a team-record 16 rushing touchdowns, contributed significantly to the Bills’ success.
