Country artist Billy Ray Cyrus defended his decision to perform at President Trump’s Liberty Inaugural Ball despite technical difficulties during his 12-minute stint onstage on Monday. The country vet claimed he was “there for the people” and that not having a functioning microphone or guitar was part of the show. When asked about past criticisms from Carrie Underwood and others, Cyrus said, “I had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night and I’ve learned through all these years when the producer says ‘you’re on,’ you go entertain the folks even if the equipment goes to hell.”
