BioShock 4 Studio Overhaul Amid Narrative Concerns and Layoffs

BioShock 4, the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed series, is undergoing significant changes after failing a review by 2K Games executives. According to a report from Bloomberg, the studio will revamp its narrative in the coming months, citing concerns over the game’s storyline.

The shift comes after Cloud Chamber Games studio head Kelley Gilmore was removed and creative director Hogarth de la Plante moved into a publishing role. The company has been told to become more agile and efficient, sparking fears of layoffs among employees.

2K Games confirmed the changes and stated they are committed to delivering a great game. The studio’s development process began in 2018, with Ken Levine, the original BioShock creative director, not working on the project due to his focus on other ventures.

Despite limited details, job listings suggest that BioShock 4 will feature an open-world setting and new narrative lead Liz Albl, a former Ghost of Tsushima writer. The game’s release window remains unknown, but fans can look forward to previewing Ken Levine’s Judas game, which was initially expected to be out by March 2025.
