The future of the BioShock series has taken a turn for the worse. According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Cloud Chamber’s new BioShock game failed review due to narrative issues and has been revamped. The report also states that studio head Kelley Gilmore was ousted from her position.
Cloud Chamber, the developer behind BioShock 4, has made significant changes to its leadership team, with creative director Hogarth de la Plante being reassigned to a publishing role. The company’s leaders have emphasized the need for agility and efficiency, prompting concerns over potential layoffs.
The news comes as a blow to fans of the series, particularly those eagerly awaiting a remake of the original BioShock game. However, it appears that plans for a remake were already on hold, having been shelved earlier this year.
Ken Levine, the creator of the BioShock series, is not involved in BioShock 4 and has expressed his support for the new game, stating he will play it as a player upon its release. The development of BioShock 4 is being overseen by Take-Two, which also owns Ken Levine’s current project, Judas.
The decline of Cloud Chamber and the BioShock series raises concerns about the long-term viability of the franchise. With over 43 million copies sold worldwide, the BioShock series remains one of Take-Two’s most valuable franchises.
