Biostar has unexpectedly released a new model of the Radeon RX 580, a seven-year-old graphics card that originally launched in April 2017. The RX 580 was an excellent choice for budget gaming at 1080p, and it’s still a viable option today.
The new model uses the slightly updated 2048 core architecture version of the chip, which launched in 2018. While Biostar hasn’t publicly explained why they’re reviving this GPU, some speculate that AMD is focusing on AI and high-end graphics cards, leaving room for lower-end options like the RX 580.
The price point for the new RX 580 is expected to be around $100-$200, making it an affordable option for those looking to build a budget gaming rig. However, it’s worth noting that AMD no longer supports the RX 580 in its main driver update branch, focusing instead on the RDNA series.
While not future-proof, this GPU could still be a great choice for playing older games at 1080p.
