BioWare’s former franchise head, Mark Darrah, has discussed the challenges of remastering the original Dragon Age game. According to Darrah, a lack of enthusiasm from publisher EA is partly to blame for the delay.
Darrah stated that he thinks BioWare should focus on remaking or rebranding the first three games in the series as “The Champions Trilogy,” with a possible release order of Dragon Age: Origins, then a potential remake or remaster. This approach would allow BioWare to build upon the existing foundation of the original trilogy.
However, Darrah emphasized that a remaster is currently out of the question due to technical difficulties and development challenges. The original engine used in Dragon Age: Origins is now outdated, making it harder to work with compared to Mass Effect’s more modern Unreal Engine.
Darrah suggested that hiring external teams or working within BioWare’s existing budget would be difficult, considering EA’s stance on remasters. Instead, the focus shifts to future projects like Mass Effect 5, which is still in early production stages.
