A South Korean passenger jet that crashed on December 29 killing 179 people has yielded a surprising discovery – bird feathers found in one of its engines. The Boeing 737-800, operated by Jeju Air, was flying from Bangkok to Muan, South Korea when it crash-landed, skidding off the runway into a wall and exploding into flames. Authorities are investigating how the airfield’s construction may have contributed to the disaster. Lead investigator Lee Seung-yeol confirmed that video footage showed a bird strike on one of the engines, but details about the impact remain unclear. A flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder were sent to the US for analysis, with results expected in two weeks. The South Korean transport minister plans to resign amid heavy responsibility for the tragedy.
