Bird Flu Cases Rise in California, Nationwide Outbreak Reported

California has reported two cases of bird flu, both among farmworkers who were exposed to infected animals. The individuals have mild symptoms and are recovering. With 34 confirmed cases across the state, health officials warn that the disease is spreading in some farm animals.

Residents are urged to take precautions when working with or handling poultry, dairy cows, or other potentially infected animals. Protective gear such as respirators, goggles, coveralls, and gloves can help prevent the spread of the disease.

Nationwide, there are 60 confirmed cases of bird flu, with California accounting for most cases. Other states with reported cases include Colorado, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, and Washington. Symptoms of bird flu include pink eye, fever, fatigue, cough, and muscle aches.

Treatment typically involves antiviral drugs such as Oseltamivir, Peramivir, or Zanamivir. The majority of recent cases have caused mild respiratory symptoms like pink eye.
