A recent detection of bird flu has been confirmed in two geese at Chaparral Park in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Arizona Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory identified avian influenza in a domestic goose and a Canada goose found at the park.
The affected birds are believed to be infected with the Eurasian strain of the virus, which is different from strains found in wild birds that are generally resistant to high-path AI. This particular strain has caused significant mortality rates among bird populations, including bald eagles, great horned owls, Canada geese, and waterfowl.
The Arizona Game and Fish Department urges the public to report any sick wild birds by calling (623) 236-7201, while domestic birds can be reported through the Arizona Department of Agriculture at (602) 542-4294. This incident marks another case of bird flu in the Valley, following a recent outbreak at Wildlife World Zoo and Aquarium in Litchfield Park where five animals died after testing positive for H5N1.
