Bird flu has been detected in backyard flocks across New Haven County, according to the Department of Agriculture. This marks the first case reported in 2025 and the first detection within the county. Last week, officials announced similar findings in a flock located in New London County.
Agriculture Commissioner Bryan P. Hurlburt emphasized the importance of working with local, state, and federal partners to address reports of sick domestic birds. He stressed the need for flock owners to take appropriate measures to protect their birds, monitor for sudden changes, and report suspected cases promptly.
The affected birds have been quarantined and depopulated to prevent the spread of the disease, ensuring public health is maintained in both the county and surrounding areas.
