Former UFC champion Michael Bisping has praised Joaquin Buckley’s dominant performance against Colby Covington at UFC on ESPN 63. Despite taking the fight on short notice, Buckley was deemed the winner via doctor stoppage TKO after a cut on Covington’s right eyelid impaired his vision.
Bisping credits Covington for stepping up to face a tough opponent in Buckley, but believes the latter had him figured out from start to finish. “He was not good enough, he wasn’t quick enough, he wasn’t powerful enough with the wrestling,” Bisping said. “Joaquin Buckley just kind of picked him apart, busted him up early, and opened up a cut right on the eyelid.”
Buckley’s aggressive style, fueled by negative energy, proved to be too much for Covington, who struggled to keep pace throughout the fight. Despite having more success with wrestling in the later rounds, Buckley’s footwork and striking allowed him to outmaneuver his opponent.
“Buckley is a powerful man, and he’s a bad motherf*cker,” Bisping said. “He’s been in a mood all week, and it shows in his performance. He’s clearly working hard to get results inside the octagon.”
