Bitcoin Futures Break Through $100K Barrier

Bitcoin futures have surpassed the $100,000 price mark on Deribit, with contracts expiring in March and June trading at premium prices. The futures contract for March 28 expired at $101,992, representing a 5% increase over the global average spot price of $97,200. This surge reflects expectations that the spot price will exceed $100,000 by the end of March.

Deribit’s BTC options also indicate high demand for a call option with a strike price of $100,000, boasting an open interest of $2.13 billion. The upward-sloping futures curve suggests investors are pricing in future prices above $100,000.

However, institutional activity on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange remains below $100,000, indicating a potential disconnect between the futures market and spot price movements.
