Game Science has revealed a new game in the Black Myth series, titled Zhong Kui, starring a new mythical hero. The game is not a direct sequel to Wukong but rather an attempt by the developers to create a distinct experience with fresh ideas.
A teaser trailer showcasing the new game was released during Gamescom Opening Night Live, along with a statement assuring fans that a sequel or DLC for Wukong is in development. However, the team admits that Zhong Kui is still in its early stages and has not shown much, describing it as “little more than an empty folder” at this point.
The new game will follow the same business model as before, indicating it may not be free-to-play when launched. The developers are currently exploring differences between Wukong and Zhong Kui, but no concrete details have been revealed yet.
Following the release of Black Myth: Wukong on August 20, 2024, the game became a massive hit, drawing over 2.4 million concurrent players on Steam. This success has led to high expectations for the new game, with many anticipating that Zhong Kui will be just as popular or even more so when it launches on PC and consoles in the future.
