Black Myth: Wukong Director Blames Xbox Series S Memory for Delay

The game’s director, Feng Ji (also known as Yocar), has finally confirmed why Black Myth: Wukong was indefinitely delayed on Xbox Series S. In a recent post on Chinese social media platform Weibo, Ji blamed the console’s memory issues, specifically the 10G shared memory, for making it impossible to release the game without significant optimization experience.

Ji stated that if an Xbox version were released in 2024, it would have been “perfect” but ultimately decided against it. This revelation debunks rumors of a shady PlayStation exclusivity deal and confirms what many suspected about the Series S’s limitations. Other developers, including Funcom and Larian, have previously struggled with the console due to its memory constraints.

Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology, allowing players to explore epic battles, master staff techniques, and combine spells and abilities to create a unique combat style. Despite its impressive Steam Awards performance, including three awards and “Game of the Year,” the game’s Xbox delay has left fans eager for a release date.

The news provides closure on the mysterious delay, which sparked controversy among gamers and developers alike. With this explanation, it seems that Game Science will focus on further optimizing their game for Xbox Series S before its eventual release.
