Black Rock Pioneer P. Fluid Killed in NYC Beating

A man has been arrested in connection with the beating death of 64-year-old Peter Forrest, a pioneering rock musician known by his stage name P. Fluid. Forrest was a frontman for the 1980s band 24/7 Spyz, which blended elements of heavy metal, funk, R&B, punk, and other genres.

The Bronx band was part of a wave of Black-led rock groups that emerged in the 1980s, including Living Colour and Fishbone. Forrest left the band during its tour with Jane’s Addiction in 1990.

Police found Forrest unconscious and beaten inside his private ambulette bus on Monday. He was pronounced dead at the scene, with blunt force injuries to his head and torso. Surveillance video showed a man exiting the bus around 9am and getting into a separate car with a woman. The victim’s body was discovered by another worker about an hour later.

The suspect, Sharief Bodden, faces murder, manslaughter, and other charges related to the incident. No lawyer is listed for him in the state’s online court database.
