Chicago Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson announced today that Jeff Blashill has been named the 42nd head coach in franchise history. Blashill joins the organization after three seasons as an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he led the team to a record of 138-86-22 and playoff appearances each year.

Blashill previously served as head coach of the Detroit Red Wings from 2015-2022, earning a record of 204-261-72. He also had success in his role with the Grand Rapids Griffins, leading them to a Calder Cup championship and developing young players who thrived under his guidance.

In addition to his coaching experience, Blashill has a strong background on the international stage, serving as head coach of Team USA at three IIHF World Championships. He began his coaching career in 1998-99 with Ferris State University, working his way up to become an assistant coach and eventually head coach.

The Blackhawks organization is excited to have Blashill on board, citing a shared vision and philosophy for team success. With his experience in developing young players and blending that into overall team success, the team looks forward to seeing what’s to come under his direction.
