BlackRock Removed from Texas Divestment List Amid Climate Shift

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar removed international investment giant BlackRock Inc. from a list of companies public agencies were required to divest from, following the firm’s realignment with state law by withdrawing from key clean energy initiatives. The move came after Senator Bill 13, passed in 2021, requires the comptroller’s office to maintain a list of financial firms that “boycott” the fossil fuel industry. BlackRock’s removal from the list marks a shift in the company’s stance on climate initiatives, with Hegar calling it a “meaningful victory” for Texas’ energy economy. The firm has stepped back from Climate Action 100+ and removed itself from Net Zero Asset Managers, citing its commitment to supporting the growth of the Texas economy through investments.
