Actor-director Justin Baldoni is at the center of a controversy surrounding his film “It Ends with Us,” which received negative reviews during its promotion. According to an amended complaint filed by Baldoni, he and his team claim that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who starred in the film, drafted a statement asking him to take responsibility for the movie’s troubled production and the negative press Lively received while promoting it.
The statement, allegedly written by Lively and Reynolds in August 2024, expresses regret over any upset caused during the production and promotion of the film. It also claims that they are taking full accountability for the issues, stating that the cast and crew worked professionally throughout the process, and that negativity aimed at them is their own responsibility to address.
Baldoni’s team has denied issuing the statement, claiming that Lively and Reynolds demanded its release but refused to do so. The company states that releasing the statement would have been misleading and unfair, as there were no significant issues with the production or promotion of the film.
The controversy began in December 2024, when Lively sued Baldoni and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, alleging sexual harassment and a smear campaign. Baldoni has denied these allegations and subsequently countersued Lively, Reynolds, and their publicist, among others.
