Actress Blake Lively is continuing to receive support after filing a lawsuit against her “It Ends With Us” co-star, Justin Baldoni, alleging sexual harassment, retaliation, and infliction of emotional distress. The complaint, filed with the California Civil Rights department, claims that Baldoni executed a “social manipulation” campaign to “destroy” Lively’s career and reputation.
Lively’s costars, Brandon Sklenar and Jenny Slate, have publicly expressed their support for her. Sklenar shared a screenshot of New York Times’ archive of legal documents on Instagram, urging his followers to educate themselves about the lawsuit. Slate stated that she admires Lively’s bravery as she enters a “messy legal battle” with Baldoni.
The allegations against Baldoni date back to months after rumors of an on-set feud between Lively and Baldoni first surfaced. According to court documents, an “all hands” meeting was convened to address a “hostile work environment” that had nearly derailed production. The documents reveal that attendees included Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, and director Jamey Heath.
Lively claims that she was forced to address concerns about Baldoni’s misconduct with him directly and began doing so months before filming began. The complaints raised by Lively included no more showing nude videos or images of women, no more discussions about personal experiences with sex, and no more descriptions of their own genitalia.
Baldoni’s attorney, Bryan Freedman, claims that the allegations are “completely false” and part of a “desperate attempt” to damage Baldoni’s reputation. However, Lively denies planting or spreading negative information about Baldoni or Wayfarer Studios, her production company.
The lawsuit aims to pull back the curtain on what Lively describes as “sinister retaliatory tactics” against those who speak up about misconduct. The outcome of the lawsuit remains uncertain, but Lively’s support from her peers and husband suggests that she is determined to see justice served.
