Blake Lively and her team have sent subpoenas to multiple cell phone companies, including Justin Baldoni and his production company Wayfarer Studios, amid their ongoing legal drama. According to court documents, Baldoni’s lawyers claim the move is “broad, invasive, and atypical” and exceeds the scope of permissible discovery in civil litigation.
Baldoni, 41, denies Lively’s allegations of sexual harassment and emotional distress, and has filed a defamation suit for $400 million against her, husband Ryan Reynolds, and publicist Leslie Sloane. Lively’s team claims they are seeking phone records to uncover evidence of a smear campaign against the actress.
However, Baldoni’s lawyers argue that the move is “grossly” excessive and could set a precedent for abuse of the discovery process in civil litigation. They claim to have conferred with Lively’s side but were unable to resolve the dispute, and are now seeking a judge’s intervention.
