US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited the Nato headquarters in Brussels on Tuesday, promising to continue funneling arms to Ukraine despite Donald Trump’s vow to cut off US support. “This is a vital moment for the alliance to make sure we’re level set for the year ahead,” Blinken said.
As the Biden administration rushes another $725m worth of military equipment to Ukraine, Nato officials stressed the need for continued cooperation with Kiev. However, Ukrainian foreign ministers were left without a concrete decision on Nato membership, which they see as the only “real guarantee” for their security.
Russian Ambassador to the UN Vassily Nebenzia accused Ukrainian intelligence services of aiding rebels in Syria, while Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry blamed Russia and Iran for the recent escalation. Meanwhile, a report by Yale’s School of Public Health revealed that Russian presidential aircraft and funds were used to take children from occupied Ukrainian territories and “Russify” them.
The development comes as Trump is set to assume the US presidency, with many questioning whether he will maintain US support for Ukraine’s defense efforts. Blinken’s visit has sparked hopes that Nato will continue its commitment to Ukraine’s security, but the future remains uncertain.
