The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a five-year contract worth $92.5 million with outfielder Anthony Santander, according to his agents at the Beverly Hills Sports Council. The deal includes an opt-out clause and a team option for 2030 that could increase its value to $110 million over six years.
Santander, 30, joins the Blue Jays after previously playing for the Baltimore Orioles. He recorded a career year in 2024, earning his first American League All-Star selection and hitting .506 with 44 home runs, 102 RBIs, and 25 doubles in 155 games. His power numbers were among the best in the majors last season.
The Blue Jays had been considered a finalist for several high-profile free agents, including Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto, but failed to sign any of them. Santander’s deal is seen as a major coup for the team, which aims to bolster its lineup centered around Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and supplement one of the best starting rotations in baseball.
However, the Blue Jays will lose their second-highest draft pick in 2025 and $500,000 in international bonus pool room for signing Santander, who received and rejected a qualifying offer from the Orioles.
