Blue Origin Sets New Glenn Rocket Launch Date After Weather Delays

Blue Origin is waiting for clear skies and fair seas to launch its massive New Glenn vehicle from Florida. The company completed integration of the rocket this week, rolled it to its launch site at Cape Canaveral, and focused on weather conditions. Sea states in the Atlantic Ocean have been unsuitable for an initial attempt to catch the first stage booster on a drone ship.

Blue Origin has already canceled two previous attempts, with the new launch time set for Monday, January 13, at 1 am ET. Better sea states are expected during this window, and the company will provide a webcast of proceedings starting one hour before liftoff. The mission timeline shows that fueling will take several hours, including hydrogen loading, liquid oxygen, and methane for the booster stage.

The rocket’s second-stage fueling will begin 4.5 hours before liftoff, followed by the booster stage and second stage at 4 hours and 3.5 hours respectively. Fueling should be complete about an hour before liftoff. Blue Origin is seeking a nominal flight to launch its New Glenn vehicle successfully.
