BMW Unveils Limited-Edition M850i xDrive ‘Heritage’ Tribute to First-Gen 8 Series

BMW has unveiled the highly anticipated 2026 M850i Edition M Heritage, a limited-edition Gran Coupe built to honor the first-generation 8 Series. Only 500 examples of this car will be produced, each featuring design cues from the original E31 that debuted in 1989.

The new edition is rooted in the power and precision of the current M850i xDrive platform, boasting a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbo V8 delivering 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. The car’s acceleration reaches 0-60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, with top speed capped at 155 mph.

Design-wise, the 2026 M850i Edition M Heritage stays true to its heritage with five unique paint finishes, all pulled from the E31 palette. These include Bright Red, Mauritius Blue metallic, Cosmos Black metallic, Oxford Green metallic, and Daytona Violet metallic. The coupe’s proportions remain unchanged, but details such as a carbon fiber roof with M tri-color stripes and 20-inch Orbit Grey dual-spoke wheels create a clean perimeter.

Inside, the car features M Sport seats trimmed in black Full Merino Leather and Alcantara, accompanied by diamond-quilted upholstery and subtle M badges. The interior atmosphere is completed by a matte-finish carbon fiber console, while Alcantara wraps the headliner, dash, and upper door panels.

The 2026 BMW M850i Edition M Heritage marks an exciting moment for the brand, as it celebrates its 50th anniversary of operations in North America. Production begins in November, with deliveries expected in early 2026.
