BMW’s Insane Electric Test Rig Packs 5x More Torque Than Koenigsegg Gemera

BMW has unveiled its Vision Driving Experience (VDX), an electric test rig that produces 13,269lb ft of torque – five times more than the Koenigsegg Gemera. The VDX is not intended for production but will influence BMW’s next-generation Neue Klasse vehicles and future quad-motor M cars.

Developed over three years in-house, the VDX features a carbon chassis and various modes, including Drift and Comfort. It can generate massive downforce with its Track mode, which simulates thousands of pounds of force. The rig also showcases BMW’s focus on recuperation power, with regenerative braking playing a key role in reducing brake wear.

The VDX is powered by the Heart of Joy control unit, a revolutionary system that manages drivetrain and driving dynamics. This patented technology enables the car to respond quickly and precisely, while maintaining high stability and agility.

According to Christian Thalmeier, BMW’s Heart of Joy expert, the VDX is “a beast” that can handle extreme conditions. The test rig’s advanced features aim to create a more engaging driving experience, with less emphasis on noise and vibration. While some drivers may initially miss the sound of an internal combustion engine, Thalmeier believes they will adapt to the new dynamics.
