Bob Dylan’s original typewritten lyrics for his hit song “Mr. Tambourine Man” have sold at auction for over £417,000. The two-page lyric sheet, which features Dylan’s annotations and changes made to the text on the typewriter, is a rare glimpse into the songwriter’s creative process.
The lyrics were written by Al Aronowitz, a close friend of Dylan’s in the 1960s, who is often referred to as the “grandfather of rock journalism.” The sale coincided with the release of a new Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet.
Other notable items from the auction include a 1968 oil painting signed by Dylan himself, which sold for £213,000, and a 1983 Fender Telecaster guitar owned and played by Dylan, which fetched £182,000. The sale highlights the enduring fascination with Dylan’s music and legacy, which continues to captivate fans across generations.
