Boeheim’s Army Dominates Opening Night of The Basketball Tournament

Boeheim’s Army kicked off The Basketball Tournament (TBT) with a resounding 97-71 victory over Herkimer Originals on Saturday night. The team, composed of former Syracuse players and local products, scored the opening basket and never looked back, notching their first win in the one-million dollar winner-take-all event.

The tournament features 64 teams competing for the top prize, with a year-long hiatus for Boeheim’s Army after they won TBT in 2021. However, the team made up of Buddy Boeheim and Elijah Hughes led by former Syracuse players is back to its winning ways.

Buddy Boeheim, who returned from playing in the NBA Summer League with the Indiana Pacers on Friday, was a force to be reckoned with, scoring 24 points and hitting 12 threes throughout the night. The team’s pace was relentless, with 18 three-pointers landing against the Originals.

The game ended in Elam Ending style, where a target score of 97 was set to win after Syracuse already had 92 points. Elijah Hughes sealed the victory with a final corner three-pointer.

Boeheim’s Army is set to face We Are D3 on Monday night, their first matchup since their TBT 2019 victory. The team is looking to build momentum as they advance in the tournament.
