Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg has praised Elon Musk as a “brilliant guy” who is helping the company overcome its delays in delivering Air Force One planes. The planes were initially expected to be delivered by 2024 but have been plagued by multiple delays, with Boeing now expecting delivery by at least 2027.
Ortberg said Musk’s DOGE team has been working with Boeing to identify what can be done to speed up production and meet the revised deadline. Despite the setbacks, Ortberg is embracing Musk’s involvement, citing his ability to quickly distinguish between technical requirements and non-essential elements that can be streamlined.
The situation comes after President Donald Trump criticized Boeing for its slow progress on the project, which has resulted in over $2 billion in losses for the company. However, it appears that a new partnership with Musk is helping to turn things around.
Boeing’s stock prices have been affected by the delays, falling 2.83% on Thursday and more than 10% over the past year. The company reported a net loss of $3.86 billion in its latest quarterly earnings report, marking one of its most significant losses in recent years.
