Boeing’s Air Force One Program May Face Further Delays Until 2029

The Air Force One program, led by Boeing, may be further delayed until 2029 or later due to supply chain issues and changing requirements, according to a senior administration official. The first aircraft was initially slated for delivery in December 2024 but has been pushed back to at least 2027 or 2028.

The delay is attributed to the fact that some manufacturers have gone out of business, making it difficult for Boeing to secure components. Additionally, evolving potential threats have led to changes in the aircraft’s requirements. The official acknowledged that the delay could stretch “years beyond” 2029.

President Donald Trump has been deeply engaged with the program since his presidential campaign and has a personal interest in seeing the project completed quickly. However, this engagement may signal further problems for Boeing, which is currently working with Elon Musk to get the plane updated quicker.

The Air Force One aircraft are intended to be an airborne White House, accommodating more people than the current aircraft. A recent visit by Trump to a 12-year-old 747-8 aircraft has shown him the importance of having a larger space for presidential transport.
