Boise State earned a College Football Playoff spot by beating No. 20 UNLV 21-7 on Friday night, clinching its second straight Mountain West Conference title. Ashton Jeanty led the team with 209 yards and a touchdown, including an electrifying 75-yard run that tied LaDainian Tomlinson’s FBS season record for longest touchdown runs.
Jeanty also moved into fourth place on the FBS season rushing list, just shy of Barry Sanders’ record. Coach Spencer Danielson praised Jeanty, saying he “showcases week in and week out that he’s the best football player in the country.” Danielson took a subtle dig at Heisman front-runner Travis Hunter, suggesting voters should watch film over stats.
Boise State will receive a first-round bye in the playoff if it maintains its ranking ahead of the Big 12 winner. The team will look to make a run in the playoffs after defeating UNLV, which finished with a 10-3 record and 38.7 points per game scoring offense.
