James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are handing over creative control to Amazon MGM Studios, effective immediately. The move comes after Amazon acquired MGM in 2022 and has since held the rights to distribute James Bond movies.
The deal allows Amazon MGM Studios to form a new joint venture, gaining full control of the franchise’s intellectual property rights. Wilson and Broccoli will remain co-owners but step back from producing the films.
83-year-old Michael G. Wilson plans to focus on art and philanthropy after retiring from film production. Barbara Broccoli stated that she also feels it is time for her to focus on other projects following the conclusion of No Time to Die, the most recent Bond film starring Daniel Craig.
The franchise’s future now lies with Amazon MGM Studios, which will decide on the next star to play James Bond and shape the direction of the series.
