Borderlands 4 Dials Down Humour, Says Narrative Director

Gearbox’s latest game promises to be its most ambitious yet, with narrative director Sam Winkler hinting at a more serious tone compared to previous titles. In response to fan concerns about the series’ typical humour, Winkler stated that Borderlands 4 will not feature “skibidi” quotes or toilet humour reminiscent of the last game.

Winkler described Borderlands 4 as Gearbox’s most ambitious project and said he is happy to work with a team of comedic writers. However, in a humorous response to a fan question, Winkler jokingly threatened to cry tears if the word “skibidi” appeared in the game under his watch.

The criticism of previous games’ toilet humour has been well-documented, but the series remains known for its lighthearted and entertaining tone. Fans can expect Borderlands 4 to maintain this spirit while delivering a more satisfying experience.

A new trailer released at The Game Awards showcased the game’s new planet and playable vault hunters, generating excitement among fans. With a launch date set for 2024, players can look forward to exploring a fresh world with improved gameplay mechanics.
