Borderlands 4 Release Date Helps Narrow Down GTA 6 Window

The release date for Borderlands 4, announced during the PlayStation State of Play event last night, has provided a clearer timeline for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6). This news comes as Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games’ parent company, had previously stated that GTA VI would launch in Fall 2025. The new release date for Borderlands 4, which is set for September 23rd, has shifted the window for GTA 6’s release to earlier than initially thought.

Take-Two’s CEO Strauss Zelnick mentioned that releasing huge titles close together is not necessary, leaving room for GTA 6 to potentially release in October or November. However, given the anticipation surrounding GTA 6 and its predecessor, GTA V, any delay remains a possibility. The development process can be unpredictable, and Rockstar Games has already demonstrated an impressive pace with their previous games.

In addressing fan concerns, Take-Two clarified that Borderlands 4’s release date does not indicate a delay for GTA 6. This misconception likely arose from the company’s earlier reports stating that Borderlands 4 would follow GTA 6 in release order, which was based on the previous assumption of a specific timeline. However, it appears that Borderlands 4 has been moved up internally to avoid delaying its own release.

Additionally, Take-Two’s CEO provided reassurance about Rockstar Games’ future projects, including a PC release for GTA 6 and addressing concerns over AI and violence in the game. Despite this, fans can still expect a Fall 2025 launch window for GTA 6, which has sparked a surge in Take-Two stock prices.
