Borderlands 4 Release Date Moved Up 11 Days to September 12

Gearbox’s upcoming first-person shooter Borderlands 4 will now release on September 12, 11 days earlier than planned, according to development chief Randy Pitchford in a recent video. The game was initially scheduled for September 23 across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and Nintendo Switch.

Pitchford revealed that the decision to move up the launch date is positive, with everything going “kind of the best-case scenario.” He also mentioned that the promised PlayStation State of Play focused on Borderlands 4 will be released soon. However, some speculate that the early release might be due to Grand Theft Auto 6’s looming release window in fall 2025.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously stated that the company aims to avoid cannibalization by releasing games at optimal times, allowing consumers to spend time playing hits before moving on to the next. The timing of Borderlands 4’s release might also be influenced by Bungie’s online co-op extraction shooter Marathon, which is set for release on September 23, 2025.

The early release of Borderlands 4 has sparked questions about GTA 6’s potential delay or release window. Some speculate that it could happen in the first quarter of 2026 or earlier, while others believe it might come out later in December 2025.
