Gearbox has announced that Borderlands 4 will be released later this year in September, with a new release date of September 12, 2025. This comes as the developer also revealed two new Vault Hunters, Vex and Rafa the Exo-Soldier, who will join forces to battle against the notorious Timekeeper.
The game takes place on a previously unknown planet called Kairos, where players will embark on a journey to uncover its secrets. The gameplay deep dive reveals significant changes to the series, including the introduction of the Licensed Parts system, which allows players to combine traits and abilities from different manufacturers into a single weapon. Another major shift is the addition of a dedicated Enhancements gear slot, as well as a new category of gear called Rep Kit.
Gearbox has also emphasized the importance of co-op play, with the introduction of a “Buddy System” that enables up to four players to drop in and out of games online, featuring dynamic level scaling and instanced loot for each player. These fresh additions promise to make Borderlands 4 an even more engaging experience.
Borderlands 4 will be released on the Epic Games Store on September 12, 2025, and fans can look forward to hours of intense looter-shooter action and endless loot drops.
